What I wore to the Animal Shelter

I mentioned last week that Sean and I now have two new additions to our family! We went to the animal shelter and found to sweet kittens. I finally got them to settle down this weekend so I could snap a few pictures of them to share with you :) They're such typical squirmy kittens that it was quite a feat to get them tuckered out enough to lay on the couch together. The little tabby on the left is Phineas, and the gray one on the right is Ferb :)

We went the Saturday before last and got Phineas. It was he and a little gray kitty in a cage together, but Sean and I just wanted one kitty. So we adopted Phineas without a thought and brought him home. The adoption woman tried to convince us that two kittens are better than one and we should adopt the gray kitty too, but we insisted that we could only handle one. We brought Phineas home and had an absolutely wonderful time with him. He was playful, snuggly, and downright adorable. However we couldn't get out of our minds that Phineas needed his Ferb and that the little gray kitten was still sitting, now all alone, in his cage at the animal shelter. So three days later I went back and brought Ferb home too! They recognized each other almost immediately and began rubbing noses and playing like good little brothers. Now they play fight constantly and love to sleep by our feet in the evenings snuggled up in their favorite blanket :). We feel so blessed to have such wonderful kitties to call our own! Rest assured I turned into a crazy cat lady instantaneously and began posting pictures all over the internets of my kitties sleeping, playing, etc. Ya, that's gonna happen a lot so be prepared :D

This is what I wore to the animal shelter! It was pretty warm that day, so I pulled out these flour sack shorts which were made for my aunt around 40 years ago. Since clothing was made out of any material one could find lying around, flour was packaged in fabric sacks that could be later used to make dresses, shorts, etc. as a way to reuse them. I absolutely adore the pretty fabric and cannot ever picture them holding flour! If only baking ingredients were still packaged so prettily. They've held up so well too! I absolutely love the length of them. So many high waisted shorts are so short in the back that one feels scandalous wearing them. These are nice and long, and so comfortable too! This blouse is my grandmother's. I stupidly got too close to a cage while at the animal shelter and a kitten reached out it's claws and snagged the back of it, but I think it's fixable. Lesson learned :/

Cute shorts, but even cuter kittens!! Something must be in the air - my family are planning on adopting a new cat this week, too.

The stories behind this outfit are so lovely, the flour fabric in particular! I would be buying baking ingredients to get more sewing materials haha!

I second hannah, you'll never tire me w/ fur baby pictures : ). These little kitten are absolutely too cute and i'm so glad you went back to get Ferb. they are so so sweet to each other cuddling like that, and i firmly believe that two is best so they will play with each other while you're away instead of scratching up things. Little Phineas looks so much like my little Lila when we adopted her a year ago. So happy for you both, animals really do bring such joy into our lives : )

Awww, your kittens are beyond adorable! My roommate used to have a cat, to which my cat got really used to, and now I find she misses a friend; good thing you got two kittens to keep each other company! Lovely look too dear, you, by far, have the best vintage items! Love the print on your shorts!
