Raspberry

Hey there friends! I feel like posting has been sparse the past few weeks. Sean and I have had some family member or another staying with us for about a month now and it's been priority to spend time with them rather than work on the ol' blog. I'm glad though, it's nice to take a break once in a while and focus on time with family! Sean and I are finally in the house alone now though and we're not really sure what to do with ourselves. At the moment  Sean is sleeping (along with the kitties) in their favorite sunbeam. Not a bad Sunday afternoon I guess :)
This is the outfit I wore last weekend for my sister in-law's couples bridal shower! We had such a fun time entertaining on our deck and showing off our kitties to everyone. The wedding is next weekend and I'm so happy for Sean's sister and her fiance! They deserve to have the best day ever and I can't wait, I love weddings!

I finally bought my very first Modcloth dress and even though it's quite a bit too big for me, adding a belt and a blazer helped considerably. I'm going to have to take up the shoulders like I do with a lot of my dresses to make it fit a bit better! This is why I don't normally order clothing off the internet I suppose. I just adored the pattern and color of this frock and it's basic shape will make it so wonderful for layering soon.

Today was a wonderful church service. My church is cool in that it sometimes gets speakers/musicians to do our services and today we got to hear Phil Joel sing and speak! For those who don't know, he is a former member of the Newsboys (only my favorite band since I was a kid, NO BIG DEAL).  He had a really great message actually, giving his testimony as well as sharing why reading the Bible and delving into the word is so important, a very convicting statement for me to hear. Daily devotions can be somewhat of a struggle for me at times. He really brought to my attention how crucial it is to make that time with God each day a priority. Sure, there will be days when you're not feeling it, but I think that's true with anything we do in our lives. Marriage, jobs, hobbies-they all get tiresome after a while, but it's making a commitment to those things that really helps one to grow. Just think about it, the CREATER OF THE UNIVERSE wants to talk to me and spend time with me, and I need my half hour more of sleep rather than spending time with God? How silly that sounds when I say it out loud (or type it, whatever :) ).   Just something on my heart today.

Alright, Darlings I have the evening ahead of me to hopefully get a few things done (when I say things, I mean playing with kitties while entertaining the idea of cleaning dishes). We'll see what happens :)

God Bless!

Black and White

Black and white isn't a color pallete I delve into very often, but this hat just called for it. I pulled out this short, white sweater from my grandmother and a new rummaged skirt I picked up for 50 cents. I was so excited to find a nice, black skirt with pockets! The shoes were a find from the Benson's Flea Market a while ago. They were in such perfect condition and I really enjoyed wearing them. I've just been thinking lately about how finding items like this skirt and pair of shoes are helping me to condense my wardrobe a bit. I really feel as though I'm able to get rid of a lot of my cheap, college purchases in lieu of well made, vintage items that will last a lot longer. It just takes a bit of time, that's all!

I was so glad that this hat came with hat pins attached to it! I've been in need of a pair and they really do come in handy with this windy spell we've been having. I really did love wearing my hair all rolled up this way. I wore it with two outfits that day, once to church, and also to the apple festival. I was shocked that I could get it to stay in place all day long.  Bobby pins for the win!

Well, this week sure is swinging on by! It has been so busy with a visit from my two darling nephews two days in a row! I am the luckiest auntie :). This weekend we have a wedding and my mama and sister will be staying with me, and then we have another marriage to attend the following weekend. It should be gorgeous, I love fall weddings.  I feel as though fall snuck up on me though, I had a couple of fall kickoff posts planned for the blog, but I guess they'll have to be a week late. No harm in that, right?

Have a blessed day!

The Apple Festival

This weekend Sean and I had the pleasure of visiting our local apple/pumpkin orchard for an Apple Festival! I take the opportunity to attend these types of festivals whenever possible, mostly because I adore hayrides and the like. You get a ride out to the orchards on a tractor driven by a cute old man who looks like Santa Claus (bonus points, we saw a car in the field/parking lot that had the license plate MRSCLAUS so I'm pretty sure we actually did see Santa himself in his off season). They drive you out to the orchards of various apple varieties and you can walk around picking and eating to your heart's content. Sean and I saw a chubby little darling girl with glasses eat about three apples in one sitting on the hayride back. Some of my favorite moments were watching and listening to the children throughout the day. There rosy cheeks and giggles were so endearing.

This is one of the hats I picked up at a vintage rummage sale this weekend. I thought it was absolutely the perfect thing to wear considering its candy apple red color and little bunch of fruit sticking out the side of it. I wanted to match my surroundings, so I had to wear apple red and green for an outing such as this. This gray wool skirt was only 50 cents and I know I will get a ton of use out of this basic during the colder months. The sweater is from another rummage sale and was around a dollar or so. So, a fully rummaged ensemble! My favorite :)

I tried something different with my hair! I was trying to do something else with it completely but it wasn't working out, so I just began rolling it up from the bottom and made a little 30's bob? Not sure but it was perfect for this little topper and I think I'll be trying it again. If I can recreate it there may even be a tutorial soon...:)
Sean and I had to hit up walmart in the afternoon as well and I always laugh at the reactions I get from normal folk. One of the walmart workers was a young girl, probably about my age and she was just fascinated by my attire. She asked if I was just in a play and I told her no. She wouldn't believe me! She was convinced I was joking when I told her I dress like this all the time. Then she told me how cool it was and how she and her sister have always been fascinated by past eras. She said, "I wish I could've dressed like that, if my parents had let me!"  I thought to myself, you should just start dressing like that now! I sure enjoy it :)

Have a great day all!
