Winter Blues

The day I took these photos it was extremely cold and windy. My stole kept flying all over the place! I was so excited to finally wear this dress. I have had it sitting in my closet for years just trying to come up with a place to wear it to. I finally just decided to wear it for fun-who needs a special occasion? It is a gorgeous steel blue taffeta frock of my grandmother's. According to my grandparents, she wore it to a friend's wedding probably in the 1950's. How fun to think of her attending a wedding celebration in this dress with my grandfather. It's always incredibly interesting to think of your grandparents when they were your age. We tend to think of older generations of people as how they are now-for instance my grandmother loves to play solitaire games, read, and do other quiet hobbies. However, I bet when she was my age she was just as silly and fun as can be. I wish by putting on old garments you could live the lives of the previous owners, if only for a few minutes.

I also finally had the perfect dress to wear with this light blue hat from my shop. It is such a gorgeous piece I almost don't want to give it up, but then again I feel that way about pretty much every item I have, so... :) Check it out!

The little piece of luggage was a gift from my friend Kim who owns the shop RetroRemnants! I am excited to begin using it to transport my hats when I travel :) She stuffed it with a few little gifts as well such as some little bolero jackets from the 1950's. I need to get them cleaned and fixed up, but they're darling pieces.

Hope you're having a fantastic week!

Romans 5:1-5
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.  And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Pearls and Bows

Why hello hello today! I am home for a 'snow day' on this Monday, which is actually a 'cold day' as temps are so ridiculously low they didn't want any kiddos out and about. That is just fine with me! I am spending the day snuggling with kitties and catching up on some housework while wearing my fuzzy socks. Not a bad way to spend the day!

I was feeling very feminine, so this little pink blouse and raspberry cardigan seemed like the perfect pairing! I went to a flea market on Saturday and picked up this darling mink bow cardigan clip with a dainty string of pearls connecting the two bows. It is probably my favorite find ever. It is something I have never seen before, and cardigan clips are very difficult to find around my area for some reason. I'm also wearing my very favorite shoes again, and standing by my favorite item in the house-our fabulous 1950's dining table!

Have a happy day everyone, I'm going to go back to snuggling with my little critters!
God Bless,

1 Peter :9-10
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

Cat Hat

I found this dress for 25 cents the other day at a thrift store. I thought it was four dollars and I was also buying a scarf for a dollar. The total should have come to five dollars but when I got to the checkout she said it was 80 cents together! I was so happy! The dress was super comfy and paired perfectly well with this darling bow blouse I received from Lisa of Lalafauxbois for our Flock Together Secret Santa this year. I also couldn't resist styling up this fun hat adorned with kitty cat ears on the top. It's just perfect for a crazy cat lady like me!

The kitty ears were the BEST PART! :)

I hope you're all staying warm out there! While it has been cold up until now, I keep hearing that the worst is on its way. Windchill could reach -50 on Monday so here's hoping school is cancelled. We don't need any little kiddos with frostbite! I can honestly say this is the coldest weather I've experienced in my lifetime. I need to start taking cues from grandma and check the yearly weather almanac so I can be prepared for things like this. They're usually pretty accurate!
And on that note, I am officially boring myself, haha. Have a happy Sunday everyone!

Flakes for Days

It has definitely been reaching winter wonderland status here lately. Gorgeous snowfalls with huge flakes pouring out of the sky. The only thing hampering it are the sub-zero temperatures. Right now it's a mighty -23 degrees according to the windchill. The other day while taking photos my arms turned a bit purple...but it's worth it for snowy photos, right?! Hmmm...perhaps I'm just a crazy.

This dress of my grandmother's is one of the top five in my closet (the other four being ones which also belonged to her). I have never worn it on the blog before for a few reasons. The first being that it is completely sheer and I hadn't found a proper petticoat to wear underneath it yet. Secondly, it is very fitted and the seams are set to pop at any time, so it is definitely a special occasion dress. I have loved it ever since I was a little girl and we'd wear this dress to play dress up while running around my grandparents' farm. The fancy collar, sweet sleeves, and bright, sunny hue have always taken my breath away. Not to mention that last time  I visited my grandmother she helped me to find the matching belt that had been missing! All of her dresses had matching belts that she made herself, so it was a special treat to find them and reunite them with their dresses which had missed them so.

I wanted to try doing my makeup a little differently as well. I put just a touch of liner on my eyes and then focused on my cheeks and lips to give them the focus. Instead of my light pink powder blush I chose a lipstick, this one is Revlon Cream Lipstick in Black Cherry. I swiped a bit of the lipstick with my finger and blended it into my cheeks, giving them this wonderful wind-kissed look that matched my lips! I really loved the effect and think it's perfect for  those winter days when I'm as pale as a sheet from having no sun exposure. Even if you think your lipstick is too dark, all you need to do is blend until it is the shade you want. Give it a try! :)

This cape was given to me a few Christmases ago by my sister. At the time I didn't have anything nearly this exquisite in my collection of vintage and I didn't quite know what to do when I opened the package. It is in perfect condition and is the warmest, softest thing I own. I am always looking for fancy occasions to wear it to because something this lovely shouldn't be shut away in a closet. Maybe I should just start wearing it to the grocery store, it certainly would make things more interesting!

Have a splendid day!
God Bless
