Memories

This outfit is my very favorite.  I am wearing one of my most prized possessions-this dress of my grandmother's. I've seen pictures of her wearing it holding my aunt in the early 1960's. I styled it quite differently than she did however. In the pictures she has a straight bob cut in her hair and pearls round her neck with simple heels.  I'll have to get a hold of that picture someday.
Here are my sister's and I playing dress up in grandma's old clothes. I am on the left wearing the dress I speak of. We used to have tea parties and run around the farm in these fancy dresses. It was the best. One sister got to be princess that day and she got the best dress and a tiara. We'd sit around the table and use grandma's nice plates while eating crackers and jam and sipping on juice. Those are some of my most wonderful memories :)

My how I've grown!

I loved how soft and glittery the snowflakes appeared. The snowfall we had was so gentle and light that it created a perfect 'time stands still' look to it.

I finally tried my hair in curlers that had been wet set the night before. It was much curlier than I expected! I love curls though. I'm one of those straight-haired people that wished they had naturally curly hair (to which all the nat.curly haired people respond, "No you don't!" But no really, I do :) ). I love how soft and wonderful it feels. I may start using curlers more often. It really only took about 30-45 minutes to put up, and I'm sure with more practice it would take less. I'm going to have to experiment using different types of curlers as well as various techniques.

I didn't quite plan to wear my yellow tights with this, but when I saw how perfectly the color matched the yellow roses on the dress I couldn't resist. One doesn't just pass up an opportunity like that. Especially a color enthusiast like me :)
I believe these gloves were made to match the dress, they are also my grandmother's and match the gray/lavender color of this frock perfectly.

I had to throw my great-grandmother's peacoat on to complete the look. It has the most magical shimmering threads sewn through it.

What are some of your favorite childhood memories friends?
Have a happy Sunday!
God Bless,
KJA

Isn't it the best wearing clothes that tell someone else's story? We used to play dress up in my mom's old clothes. Now I can wear them! I have a beautiful dress of hers I've been meaning to post on the blog for forever--you've inspired me to do so soon!

I sure hope you'll post that photo of your grandmother wearing this dress. I'd love to see the difference in how you both styled it!

Oh, Katie, I love how you have that picture from the past. What a trip down memory lane, right? And you were just as cute then as you are now. :) Your hair looks gorgeous in curls, and my goodness, I can see why you'd want to have it done like that all the time. It's just so lovely!

I really adore that dress on you. It fits you much better now than it did, too. ;) And a light pink beret?! Seriously, I would wear this whole outfit. So many fun details!

Hmmmm, I think most of my memories are from my old house when me and my brother would play legos in our room. We would pour aaaall of them out and make things at night while our mom read Harry Potter to us from the hallway (our rooms were next to each other) and it would be so lovely.

Goodness Katie, this is absolutely gorgeous, and the history behind it makes it that much more special. And the coat is your great-grandmother's?? Wow, that is just amazing! I wish I had more clothes of my grandmother's that I could wear, but a lot of what is left are things she wore when she was older. Your hair also looks amazing! The curls are so feminine and lovely, just beautiful!

Katie, this is so sweet! I love the dress, especially with your hair all done up! It looks very 50s. Or 40s. I don't know decades, but it looks vintage and adorable! And the gloves are to die for!

And sorry for a small plug, I've just started my blog and it would mean so much if anyone cared to check it out!xx

I just love how your clothes involve stories from the past. That's why I love your vintage style! How amazing that you're making use out of her dress - and I love love love how you styled it too! The yellow tights were a perfect match with it. And oooh, what a rich blue cardi - I likey :)
Also, LOVE the curls! Girl, they look amazing on you. I'm one of those weird-wavey haired people who wishes her hair would just make up its mind on whether it wants to be straight or curly. Lol
One of my favorite memories from my childhood is being carried on my dad's shoulders as he went on his walks. I'd feel so incredibly tall and supported by the strong man carrying me. He'd also read passages from the Bible to me. It was our way of having devotions together. :)

What a sweet story! The dress is so pretty on you! Both then and now. I love the colors mixed with the subtle purple. Also that hair is amazing and I too always wanted curls. My sister has naturally curly hair and I die every time she wakes up with a head full of bouncy curls. I miss wearing curlers. so pretty and old school.
