Calm Before the Storm

I came down with a bit of a cold this weekend, but it seems that I feel much better if I get myself up and dressed (and drink copious amounts of hot chocolate of course). A trench, cardigan, jeggings, and oxfords was about as comfy as I could get for a few errands on a 40 degree day! Yes, the temperatures got up to the forties today and it was blissful. Made me feel like spring is on it's way, although I know that tomorrow we (along with many other places in the country) are due for a massive blizzard making its way in. Maybe I'll get some snowy pictures tomorrow? :)

I pinned this photo the other day and that was the inspiration for my double collar ensemble.  I love the way it adds some interest to the look, and the denim collar on this blouse is so fun.

I'm going to try to wear a lot of pink and red this coming week in preparation for Valentine's Day. I want it to look like cotton candy threw up on me or something! I get really into dressing for the coming holiday's because let's face it-I love to get into character, no matter what the occasion!

These magenta oxfords were a thrift find from last week and I couldn't be more in love with them. They are soft leather and the most comfortable things I have put on my feet. Not to mention I'm planning to have so much fun with this vibrant color, pairing them with everything from sundresses to shorts (can you tell I've got spring on the brain?)!

I hope you stay safe if the blizzard comes your way tomorrow! Drink lots of cocoa and make sure to snuggle up with a good book :)
God Bless!

Shhhh...Follow Me!

Hello hello everyone! I am very honored to be featured over on one of my very favorite blogs today! The loveliness behind Hello Mr. Rabbit had a few questions to ask me about my life and style. Click here to read the interview and learn a bit more about what inspired me to start blogging :)

Have a blessed day, Dears!

Matthew 5:14-16
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

What I Wore to the Diner

I posted  last week that Sean and I went to our favorite diner one night for supper, but I never put up pics of what I wore! So here you go-what to throw on in a hurry for a trip to a vintage diner. Grape soda optional. Black and white oxfords, not optional. Those are a must.  Mint green never hurt either.
:)

Happy Thursday darlings!

Luke 6:46-49
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.  But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”

Cloak

Here are a couple more of my thrifting treasures from the other day.   When I saw this coat, I thought it had a really cute print and we all know my obsession with outerwear (especially lately...). When I put it on though I discovered it had this amazing cloak type hood that was just so different from my style but I LOVED it. My husband is on board because he likes anything resembling a character from a fantasy novel. I've already been wearing this to run all of my errands because I feel SO COOL in it you guys. Usually on a good day I feel cute or sweet in what I'm wearing but I feel just plain cool when I wear this. Do you have any items like that in your closet?

The boots were my other find. I think that some versatile black booties are kind of an essential in one's wardrobe. These are so comfortable and I'm already planning all sorts of outfits to go with them.

I bought this top at TJ Maxx with a gift card a while ago. Lace, peter pan collar, peplum, seafoam green...how could I possibly pass it up? It is all of my favorite things put together in one dreamy combination. Not to mention that because of the way the peplum is designed it looks wonderful when I spin! Yep, it's my favorite :)

My week has been going pretty well. Work has been more mellow this week which I am so very thankful for. Since the weather is warming up a bit I can take the kiddos out for recess now. It makes my life so much easier. Indoor recesses are hectic! I'm teaching lessons on the rainforest too this week, which they have been really into. It's fun to find activities that they are actually interested in!
Hope your Wednesday is a fine one Sweet Peas :)

Grandmother's Blues

The weather is finally starting to warm up a bit. It was nice to experience a 30 degree day after the negative temps we've been experiencing. I thought it was a perfect sunny day to don my floral straw hat and a few springy pastels. I just can't help combining all shades of blue together, and this was no exception. The coat and blouse are my grandmother's, the cardigan is my great-grandmother's and the skirt belonged to the grandmother of a good friend. What a combination!

The lovely sun also afforded me the opportunity for another run today! The temps are supposed to stay in the 30's all week, so I can't wait to get out and enjoy the warmth while it lasts. Thank goodness it's February! This has to be my favorite month. Of course it's my birthday month, so I may be a bit biased :) It just seems as though this month is the gateway to spring, so how could I not love it?

Did any of you watch the Superbowl yesterday? Sean and I decided to watch the extended edition of Lord of the Rings instead. We apparently don't care as much about social events as we do about keeping our geeky reputation. I think we enjoyed our choice much more than we would have watching four hours of football. Shudder.
Anyway, happy Monday you Dears! I hope you have a fabulous start to your week :)
God Bless!

How to Wear Crocs

I had quite the thrifting haul this week, I can't wait to show you all of my finds! This coat pair of shoes were two of my best treasures. I have been looking for a pair of t-strap heels for SO LONG. Currently I am borrowing my sister's pair while she is away on her adventures. Alas I knew I had to give them back to her when she returned so I've been keeping my eye out. The other day while I was thrifting with one of my good friends I spotted these and my heat leaped a bit in my chest! They are probably the highest quality shoes I own. They are all leather in kind of a dark brown/burgundy shade and feel like a dream. Oh ya, and they are CROCS! What?! I was shocked as I joke about how ugly crocs are all the time (come on, who doesn't?). Apparently they are a high fashion branch of the shoe company-who knew? At any rate they are fantastic and I have been walking around in them like a giddy idiot parading my feet in front of the mirror because they are just that pretty. Come on, all of us girls do that, right? Gee, I sure hope so or this just got awkward...

The coat was my second find. It has the most darling shape to it, with a collar and ruffles around the sleeves and closure. It also kind of looks like a dress on it's own so it is such a pretty pairing with skinny jeans, dresses or whatever! I can't wait to get some use out of it the remainder of winter and into spring, as it is quite lightweight. I'm becoming somewhat of a coat hoarder, and our coat closet seems to be bursting at the seams at the moment. I just can't get enough of vintage/vintage inspired outerwear!

I bought this dress months ago but have neglected to wear it because it is quite a summery dress. It was just beginning winter weather when I purchased it. I decided it was time to bring it out though because I couldn't stand it sitting in my closet any longer! I was really drawn to the color and of course the darling bike print. I can't wait to wear it on my bike this spring! I'm planning all of these fun outfits for when the weather warms up, I just can't help it :)

The scarf is my grandmother's. I found it in the pocket of one of her old coats just waiting to be shown to the world, in all of it's silky floral glory! It is one of my most treasured items.

Also, funny story- when my husband saw me in these tights he exclaimed, "Oh, honey I told you not to use the spray tanning stuff!" hahaha, oh that Sean can be such a sassypants sometimes!

I had the opportunity to go running while it snowed pretty hard this afternoon. I said a prayer that I wouldn't slip and break an ankle and God must have heard me because I was able to stay on my feet! It was quite icy on the sidewalks and I almost went down a couple of times. At any rate, it was quite lovely to run during a snowfall. There were flakes in my hair and I had my music on and I just felt very free and lovely. I've always hated running but I think I'm warming up to it now that I'm trying interval training. In previous times I would just run until I couldn't breathe anymore and then I felt like a failure because I couldn't go very far. Now, however I feel more strong and powerful when I can keep up with my 5k program. Huzzah for that!

Hope you had a lovely Saturday :)
God Bless!
