Outfit: Between the Trees

Hello, birdies! How is your week going? Mine is going fine. I finally went for my first run last night after taking a couple of weeks off and man it was rough. I did that thing where I accidentally pulled out the treadmill key and lost all of my data TWICE during the workout which is so frustrating. I'm not even sure what I did but I can tell you I promptly went home to my couch to hang out with Jimmy Fallon for the evening. haha :)

On the note of being healthy, can any of you recommend any good teas that don't taste like tea? I do this thing where I get really snacky at like 9 at night and I want to start drinking tea instead of eating crap, you know? Problem is I think tea tastes like bathwater. I just don't like bitter things, I'm not a coffee drinker either. I've tried many flavors of tea but end up just not liking them at all. Any recommendations would be wonderful!

I just rummaged this coat this weekend for three dollars, and the shoes and sweater for 75 cents! I was so pleased with my weekend of rummaging, I got so many amazing things and my big project for the summer is to overhaul my closet. I've never done anything like that before but I'm beginning to see how necessary it is.

The coat just has such nice texture and is a nice neutral color. I was so tickled to find it! The sweater is actually a walmart brand, not vintage, but I feel like the detail at the neckline gave it a bit of vintage flair, and I loved the color so much I snapped it up! The loafers were my favorite find of the excursion. I've been wanting some that resembled all of those old street style photos from the 1940's and I want to pair them with everything now!

I decided to try something different with my hair! The front is actually just one lock of my hair, but it is so long I could wrap it all around in this crazy fashion. I just gave myself some faux bangs and swept it around to the other side in a swirl. It certainly was...erm...eye catching that's for sure! haha.

What I Wore to Work: Teal Top

 

Hello kids! I hope you had a fantastic weekend. Ours was pretty great except for the somewhat torrential winds moving across the midwest. Anyone else experiencing those? 

This weekend was one of the largest neighborhood rummages in my town so Sean and I braved the winds on Saturday and visited a few. I always have such a great time rummaging. I think it's my favorite recreational activity. You get to walk all around different neighborhoods and find SUPER cheap amazing stuff. At one rummage sale they had a huge box of Agatha Christie mysteries labeled FREE. There were about 25-30 hardcover books from the author. I know my grandmother loves Agatha Christie mysteries but she only has a few that she reads over and over. So I gave her a call to see if she'd be interested and she was so excited! :) Sean and I ended up snagging the entire box of books and I get to give my grandmother a gift just like all the gifts she's given me over the years! That was by far my favorite find :)

This was another work look I wore a couple of weeks ago when the weather finally began to warm up. This teal top is super soft and comfy, and my red sneakers are getting quite the work out as of late. I thought I'd throw on some hot pink lipstick for fun too ;)

Devotional: Combating Lies 10

Good morning all! It's time again for a Sunday Devotional. My series right now is looking at different lies that we may believe about ourselves, and how to combat those lies using scripture. Here are number one, number two,  number three ,  number four,  number five,  number 6,  number 7, and number 8  and  number 9 if you are interested!


The tenth lie is this: I am a weak person. 

The truth is: I am strong in Christ. 

Key Scriptures: 

Daniel 11:32- With flattery he [the devil]  will corrupt those who have violated the covenant, but the people who know their God will firmly resist him.

Isaiah 58:11- 
The Lord will guide you always;
    he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
    and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
    like a spring whose waters never fail.

Philippians 4:13-For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

These verses are the best. Ever have a day when you don't feel like a complete rock star? Let's face it, our squishy, human selves just plain can't handle life on our own and we internalize this and tell ourselves we're weak. This couldn't be further from the truth! God equipped us with amazing and wonderful abilities and STRENGTHS. I particularly love the passage from Isaiah. It is such  a beautiful portrayal of what life is like when you have the strength of Christ to guide you. We are likened to a sun-scorched land in need of water, but the Lord strengthens us. Our frame is flimsy, but the Lord with strengthen it. Instead of sun-scorched we will be like a well-watered garden! How lovely is that?! 
With spring here in full force, comparing myself to a garden in need of water seems like the perfect way to describe the situation. Gardens take tending to otherwise weeds and drought will overtake them and the plants become weak and whither away. Not so in the garden of the Lord. We will be tended to, cared for, enemies pulled away from us by His power. And if we trust in Him, we will flourish just like the bed of beautiful flowers pushing up to shake off the dirt of our former selves. God is the amazing giver of strength and I couldn't be more grateful for His presence in my life. When my frail, human self can't handle it, I know that Christ can. :)

Remix: Red Pencil Skirt

Oh, Hello! I didn't see you there! Maybe that's because I can't see you...anyway I digress. This week's remix is one of my essential wardrobe items, a vintage, red pencil skirt! It is an item I have had for over four years now and it is part of a vintage suit I own. I never imagined it would become such a staple in my wardrobe when I bought the suit at a flea market in college. The color is a nice, dark crimson that pairs well with a range of colors and the length makes it easy to style in varying proportions. Let's just say I'll be keeping this little number around for quite some time!

Inspiration: 1940's Yearbooks Part 2

Hello and happy Thursday! For my inspiration this week I have a few more yearbook photos for you! I really wish I could have gotten much better quality images, but I took them quickly from yearbooks in a museum so I didn't have the right lighting/camera/etc. I really want to borrow a few of my grandmother's yearbooks when I go and visit her next so I can scan in some images from she and her classmates when they attended college. They are some of my favorite! Until then, here are some photos from around 1943 I believe. I love the hairstyles and cute blouses!

Outfit: Easter Sunday

Hullo! Meet me and my easter egg leggs! Sean and I were out of town for Easter so I donned my purple tights and we cozied up to watch our Easter service online. I'm so grateful for technology in that way, it was nice to be able to still be a part of the service even though we were far away. This isn't what I would ideally wear on Easter Sunday. I like to go all out and wear a big Easter hat and some sort of vintage pastel suit, but since I was traveling this would have to do.
Good thing Easter isn't about clothing anyway, huh? ;)
