Inspiration: Overalls

With spring and summer weather approaching one garment on my wishlist is a pair of adorable overalls. I've been preening pictures from the internet for the past few weeks of women working in fields or gardens and they just look so stinkin' cute with their rolled up overalls and hair scarves. I had a couple of pairs when I was a kid, but they were the awful 90's/2000's kind that were baggy in the wrong places and tight in the wrong places. I want to find a pair that I can modify to make me look like these darling ladies! I know of some online retailers that sell vintage inspired pairs, but  goodness I just don't have the income to purchase a 100 dollar pair of overalls, so until I win the lottery or something, I'll have to keep perusing thrift shops for something similar!

Outfit: Cozy Cardigan

Oh, hello! Are you all enjoying your week so far? I am in my second to last week of school for the year, so I'm trying to wrap my head around that and all of the things that need to be finished before next week. I cannot believe how quickly the year has slipped by-like a blink!

Sean took me for Chinese a few nights ago and I wore this comfy little get-up which is primarily made up of rummage sale finds. The jeans and cardigan were each 75cents and the blouse a dollar! Now that's an outfit I can smile about :)
I admit, the cardigan is not the most flattering garment in the world, but dang if it isn't the comfiest thing I've ever worn. I've been wearing it nonstop around the house as well and I love anything gray because it is such an easy neutral to work with.

I finally got some new oxfords! Like three or four years ago when I wanted my first pair, Sean thought I was crazy. He said I would never wear them and told me that if I ever wore them out he'd replace my cheap target oxfords with nice, leather ones. Well, I've finally worn through my target pair, (they're getting holes in them :( ) so I reminded Sean of his little promise (of course he had no recollection of this haha) and I searched online for my perfect pair! It was actually tough to find a mix of something I liked that wasn't terribly expensive. There are a lot of cute styles, but made of just the cheapest plastic material out there, and then there are nice quality items but way out of our budget.
I finally found these light-colored beauties at DSW and I LOVE them. I thought when I first tried them on that they were too small, but they promptly molded to my feet and are Naturalizer so they are super comfy. I read the reviews and ordered a half size down, which I think was a good idea as well. Hopefully these will last me longer than just a few years and be more of an investment piece! Hullo, hullo! Did you dollies have a nice weekend? Our was actually very productive! It must be the influx of sun we've been having, but Sean and I got so many things accomplished this weekend!
I also had the opportunity to go to the flea market on Saturday. It happens the first weekend of each month in our city and it is one of my favorite places to walk around and see new things each time! It was kind of a bizarre experience this weekend because I kept getting recognized by different vendors who have seen me in previous months and notice me because of the way I dress. I nearly did more chatting than shopping with a few sweet people I met from across the state! I even picked up a few yearbooks and some fabulous 1940's magazines which I cannot wait to delve into deeper.
It's interesting to me because I really don't think I dress that noticeably, and I certainly don't do it to get attention, but people always comment on my attire when I go to flea markets/vintage shops. One lady this weekend told me she was going to cry when I began talking about my grandmother and how much I love to wear her clothes :)
Dressing this way affords me opportunities as well. I met one vendor (an older gentleman) who commented on my attire and said that his wife has a bunch of vintage dresses stuffed in a box at home that they can't get rid of, but he told me he'd bring them the following day if I wished! I told him ABSOLUTELY and when I went back the following day, she let me have the dresses for only 5 dollars apiece. They were mostly late 40's early 50's pieces, but I scored one gem that I believe to be from the late 1920's!! It was magical. To top it off, an older man selling popcorn who had seen me the previous day approached me and began to say how wonderful he thought I looked and even though he felt creepy for saying so he had to compliment me because he just thought I was so 'cute' haha.....It was hilarious. And then he gave me a free bag of kettle corn soo...I had a good laugh at that one when I got home.
It's just a dress people! It is just a dress.

Devotional: Combating Lies 11

Good morning all! It's time again for a Sunday Devotional. My series right now is looking at different lies that we may believe about ourselves, and how to combat those lies using scripture. Here are number one, number two,  number three ,  number four,  number five,  number 6,  number 7, and number 8,  number 9 and number 10 if you are interested!

The eleventh lie is this: I am defeated.

The truth is: I am victorious.

Romans 8:37-
No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

2 Corinthians 2:14-
But thank God! He has made us his captives and continues to lead us along in Christ’s triumphal procession. Now he uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume.

John 5:4-
For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith.


Something I love about scripture is how relatable it can be to whatever is going on in my life at that time. Even though the men and women who lived during that time were going through different circumstances, many of the feelings were the same. Take the verse from Romans here, where it says despite,  "all these things" I can take those words and apply it to whatever feelings of doubt, anxiety, or worry that I may be feeling about a situation. No matter WHAT is happening in life, OVERWHELMING victory is ours through Christ! "All these things" means anything! Christ loved us so much that there is nothing I can do to lose that love. No matter how many times I screw up He is a constant wave of grace and mercy.

Each of these verses is so beautiful. I love how in Corinthians it describes the knowledge of Christ as a sweet perfume to be spread throughout the world. Who wouldn't want to be part of the endeavor of sharing the sweet perfume of the knowledge of God? That sounds lovely!  

Let me know your thoughts on these verses! I thought they were really powerful and so amazingly relevant to what we're battling in our world today.

Frida Remix: Aqua Skirt

Well, hello there! For today's remix I thought I'd pick an item that certainly reminds me of spring and summer with it's bright hue-my vintage green skirt! I never know what to call this color: aqua, seafoam, mint? It depends on your perspective I suppose :) nevertheless this is one of my very favorite colors to wear in any form and so I love this skirt! It is my go-to piece in the warmer weather because it is so simple and basic to wear with tee's, blouses, etc. and is so comfy. It is actually a part of a two piece suit from 70's. The jacket is completely different and I would never wear them together, but I love them as separates! Always look in the suit section of the thrift store ladies, it's where I've found some of my favorite pieces :)

Inspiration: 1940's Yearbooks Part 3

Hello there! I hope you are having a wonderful week. For this week's inspiration I have the last installment of photographs from the 1940's yearbooks I found in a museum. I only had time to snap a few photos and I'd love to go back and pour over them for hours. The museum actually had yearbooks from 1890-1970, so it would literally take me hours to look through all of them. They are fantastic! 

My favorite thing about the photos is looking at how 'modern' some of the women look. The facial expression, makeup, or hair was just a bit different than everyone else and it makes me so interested in her life and personal style!
