Benson's Flea Market

Last Saturday Sean and I headed down to our expo building to check out an event that comes to town every once in a while called Benson's Flea Market. I've always wanted to check it out, but for some reason never had before. It was basically like a huge rummage sale with different vendors and an array of beautiful, antique merchandise. I had been saving up my pennies in the hopes of scoring some vintage finds while I was there, so I was pretty excited. I got all dressed up in my favorite skirt and blouse and even tried something different with my hair! I got quite a few stares walking through the vendors, but that's part of the fun, right?
I'll have to do a tutorial on this hairstyle because it was so very simple to do and comes out uniquely every time I try it! I wanted a shot of the hair from every angle, so be prepared for lots of hair shots :)

I saw so many stunning purses from the 1920's while we were there. Honestly it is one of my fashion wishes to own one of these beaded beauties someday, but they're a bit out of my price range for now. The lady selling these says she has a few as art pieces on her wall-how amazing does that sound? The purse with the 79 dollar price tag is laden with sterling silver. Oooo lala. Someday.....:)

I found some darling hats on this day too! Unfortunately, I didn't end up buying any. Let's be honest, I could have bought all the hats I saw, but we don't really have room for any more right now. I need to get some kind of a hat rack to start storing the ones I have first!

I saw a lot of pretty lace and tulle dresses as well as some from the 1930's and 40's. It was a vintage lover's dream!

At one of the booths I met the two sweetest ladies selling vintage hats, clothing and shoes. One was the owner of a shop called ReTHREADS in Yankton, South Dakota. I've never been there, but I'd love to take a trip to see her shop someday!
They had some seriously stunning pieces from the 1930's and beyond. Some of the items were a bit pricey (for my cheap self), but I understand considering the condition and uniqueness of the garments. I looked through a few pieces until I found two suit sets that looked like they would be just about the perfect size for me. When I asked her what she wanted for them she told me 20 dollars for each. I told her I'd walk around a bit, think about it, and then be back to decide on them. I like to mull things over before I buy them to make sure I'll really get use out of the items I buy, especially if I'm spending that much on them (again, I am just cheap-the pieces were totally worth that much!). I decided which one I wanted and came back to buy it, but when I told her that I could only buy one, she cut the price way down for me! She said, "You're the only person I've seen who could wear garments like these, they look like they were made for you!" So I got both suits for only 30 dollars :O!
PLUS while I was walking around she found another little suit that she thought would fit me and threw it in for free since it was a little crumpled!  Now wasn't that just the sweetest thing? The best part was that when I got home and tried on the dresses, they fit like a dream. Absolutely perfectly. It was meant to be. Below are the beauties I picked up and check back tomorrow to see me wearing one of these darling pieces!

If any of you South Dakotan's haven't checked out Benson's Flea market you definitely should next time it comes to town! I believe they take a break for the summer, but I know it starts up again in September. I'll definitely be checking out again!

God Bless and happy Tuesday friends!

Romans 5:1-5
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;  perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

  3. $79?! Dang. Sometimes I wonder how much these vendors think their things are *really* worth... I mean, maybe it is really worth that much, but hey, if it's old, shouldn't it be a little bit cheaper? Of course, not always the case with antiques, but we can hope. ;)

Also, both suits for 30 dollars... Man, aren't you glad you dressed up? That's way awesome! Four lovely pieces for 30 bucks sounds like a steal to me. Congrats on that purchase!
