Oh hello there!
I just couldn't wait to wear some of my flea market gems that I found this weekend, so here is what I wore for church on Sunday! These shoes are probably my favorite find of all time. One of my fashion dreams since I began wearing vintage has been to find a pair of 1940's heels that fit my large sized feet. Vintage shoes tend to be so narrow that even if I found a pair the right length, they still wouldn't fit. However this vendor at the flea market must have had a few pairs of shoes from the same woman because I found several pairs that fit like a dream (I resigned myself to buying two, I have SOME willpower...not much). Whenever I find similar items in vintage shops I always love to think that they must have come from the same source. Like some elderly woman dropped off her entire beloved old wardrobe and then I find it. The only problem is that everything fits and I have to split up pieces of her collection like I'm adopting some siblings and leaving the rest to grow older in the orphanage. Which is why I usually go overboard when vintage shopping. I want to give every piece a good home where they will be well taken care of...does anyone else feel that way about vintage? I love it to pieces :)
I just imagine where these shoes might have taken the woman who wore them. Did she wear them to a dance where she had her first sway across the floor? Did she don them for church with a cozy little muff and stockings in the winter? Perhaps she had a night of card playing with some of her girlfriends and she pulled out these to wear. Oh if only inanimate objects could tell a story, I would sit and listen for hours.
This handbag was from the flea market as well. I
absolutely adore anything that is two toned, and navy and tan are just
beautiful colors together in my opinion. This little rust jacket was
found at an antique shop in town called Lost Marbles. I love the pretty detailing on the skirt of the jacket and I am convinced that the 1940's had the most stunning jacket shapes and proportions. Each one was unique and that's what made them so special.
You can see a place on the front of the right shoe where the leather must have snapped and they sewed it back together. I love how well taken care of items were back then. If one of our cheaply made shoes snaps a strap most would just throw them in the trash. These were fixed beautifully and I didn't even notice the fact until after I got home and began wearing them.
Do any of you beauties have an item you've been dreaming of in your fashion lives?
God Bless!

LOVING the autumnal colors :) and your lipstick shade is beautiful!
Those shoes are really gorgeous! I think that's amazing how they've been fixed so well - I can barely tell! I understand what you mean about splitting up vintage items - it's why I just had to buy a matching pink jacket and dress :D

Honestly, it's as if you're out of a movie, set in the 1940's, you're so classically beautiful! That orange jacket is gorgeous, it's shape and fit are perfect. And yeah, that bag is amazing, the navy and brown go so well together. These pictures turned out really well too, I like the greenery in the background.
This rust colour is seriously so fantastic on you!! What great thrift store finds, I always have trouble finding footwear and I have a pretty average footsize so I can imagine how difficult it must be for you. Also this dress is such a lovely piece

That jacket is perfect. I must say I envy it! :)
Oh, Katie. This is SUCH a beauty of a dress. I mean, I love you in any outfit, but this one? Outstanding. The stripes, the shape and then how well it is paired with both jacket and purse.
I totally agree about vintage shoes. It amazes me how the things have been around ages and are still in great condition!
Ah, my wishlist...well, I'm trying to stick more to things I find "missing" in my wardrobe when it comes to shopping so I'm on a look out for a white sweater. Also noticed I only have ballet flats or heels. Might need some more winter-worthy shoes !
You look so elegant and gorgeous! Definitely one of my favorite outfits of yours! I'm loving that jacket - the color is perfect! I definitely just bought a jacket with a similar color! Oh, your purse is beautiful as well!
And I feel the same way about vintage clothes! The worse (best?) is when you see the people that they came from - like at yard sales. I bought this amazing vintage sweater from an old lady who I'm pretty sure is my spirit animal - i wanted to buy everything she had!
And my dream vintage find is a PanAm bag. *Swoon!* One day...
Hope you are having a lovely week!
xoxo,

The navy wedges match wonderfully with the striped dress.

Your outfits are always so amazing and you look so gorgeous in this one. The colors in these pictures are so rich and pretty and I love how the bag matches your jacket. That's so cool that you found shoes you have been looking for. I'm on the hunt for some vintage oxfords/brogues but it has been a challenge so far.
I love that you're musing about where these items could have come from, Katie! I always wonder the same thing. Even fi something is a little scuffed up, I wonder how it got scuffed up, you know? :) You're just lovely!
Okay, so that first picture is seriously gorgeous. Not only are you the most photogenic lady of all, but I love how the orange complements the green foliage beyond you. It's very artistic, hee hee!
Okay, onto the outfit. I adore your pretty blazer and the slight cinch at the waist is perfect on you. Those earrings are so cute, too!
Have a lovely week, Katie!! Sorry I've been so awful at commenting this week. I feel like I keep saying that but man, I have been, haha.
You are so 1940s fabulous Katie! I adore your whole outfit, and those shoes are perfect! I would love to get my hands on a perfect lacy Edwardian gown. The early 1900s aren't normally my style, but those kinds of dresses are just so beautiful.

Hi there! Just stopping by after seeing your photo on the Modcloth Style Gallery. Has anyone ever told you you look like a pretty version of Katherine Heigl? You definitely have movie star looks!
Those shoes are to die for! I would also love to have a pair of 1940s wearable platforms. You style them so nicely here :) But my ultimate fashion (specifically vintage/antique) wishlist item? A Victorian mourning hair fob. They are kind of creepy since they are woven from human hair but I've always been fascinated by them. Great stumbling by your blog! Take care!
This outfit is so cute! I don't know how you do it Katie! I love it all. I do wish my vintage clothes could tell me where they've been too. The tales they would tell...

This whole outfit is SO beautiful, tan and navy really do belong together! I especially love those shoes, it's hard to believe that they are from the 40s as they look so new.
One thing that never ceases to amaze me is how much great vintage there is in the US, there is no way you'd find such things at a flea market in Australia!
I love your bag and the color of your jacket , such a great fall outfit!
Have a great day,

This blazer is BEAUTIFUL!

your story of splitting up vintage items like orphans was so funny! i always try to remember what my mom would tell me, one item in, one out and to let someone else have something nice as well. of course i dont always do a great job w/ that. either way, wow! on that purse, such a lucky find, the two toned is perfect indeed and i LOVE the rust coat w/ the dress on you.
