I am excited to begin a devotional series on my blog. My faith is the most important thing in my life, and I'd like to be able to share the things that I am learning in this space. I wanted to go through a series of devotions that I learned while Sean and I were in a small group Bible study with a few friends this fall. We went through a class that introduced a list of scripture references combating the lies that society tells us and contrast that with Biblical truth. I'd like to do a short devotional each week talking about each of these and presenting the scriptures that go with them.
There is an extreme problem in our society involving insecurity. Feeling like we're not good enough or worthy enough. According to every media source out there we need to dress a certain way, believe in certain things, and equate our worth to our bodies rather than our hearts. I want to learn to defy those lies in my life, and perhaps some of you do to.
The first lie is this: I am unworthy or unacceptable.
Key Scriptures:
Romans 15:7
Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.
Psalm 139
1 You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.
and you know me.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
23 Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
I'm not sure how many of you have felt unworthy in the past, or are feeling this way right now. Rest assured that you are accepted and loved by Christ no matter what. It is because of His love and acceptance that we in turn can impart that to others around us in order to bring praise to God.
Psalm 139 is one of my favorite passages of all time. It truly shows with what depth we are loved by the Father, even having been known by Him before we were born. It's a bit long, but so worth the read time and time again. I just posted a few of my favorite verses here, but I recommend you finding and reading the whole chapter!
I am not eloquent, or good at expressing my thoughts through writing, but that is why I trust God to speak through me. I hope to gain more experience with practice and let me know if there are any topics you'd be interested in covering in my devotional posts.
God Bless,
KJA
