It has definitely been reaching winter wonderland status here lately. Gorgeous snowfalls with huge flakes pouring out of the sky. The only thing hampering it are the sub-zero temperatures. Right now it's a mighty -23 degrees according to the windchill. The other day while taking photos my arms turned a bit purple...but it's worth it for snowy photos, right?! Hmmm...perhaps I'm just a crazy.
This dress of my grandmother's is one of the top five in my closet (the other four being ones which also belonged to her). I have never worn it on the blog before for a few reasons. The first being that it is completely sheer and I hadn't found a proper petticoat to wear underneath it yet. Secondly, it is very fitted and the seams are set to pop at any time, so it is definitely a special occasion dress. I have loved it ever since I was a little girl and we'd wear this dress to play dress up while running around my grandparents' farm. The fancy collar, sweet sleeves, and bright, sunny hue have always taken my breath away. Not to mention that last time I visited my grandmother she helped me to find the matching belt that had been missing! All of her dresses had matching belts that she made herself, so it was a special treat to find them and reunite them with their dresses which had missed them so.
I wanted to try doing my makeup a little differently as well. I put just a touch of liner on my eyes and then focused on my cheeks and lips to give them the focus. Instead of my light pink powder blush I chose a lipstick, this one is Revlon Cream Lipstick in Black Cherry. I swiped a bit of the lipstick with my finger and blended it into my cheeks, giving them this wonderful wind-kissed look that matched my lips! I really loved the effect and think it's perfect for those winter days when I'm as pale as a sheet from having no sun exposure. Even if you think your lipstick is too dark, all you need to do is blend until it is the shade you want. Give it a try! :)
This cape was given to me a few Christmases ago by my sister. At the time I didn't have anything nearly this exquisite in my collection of vintage and I didn't quite know what to do when I opened the package. It is in perfect condition and is the warmest, softest thing I own. I am always looking for fancy occasions to wear it to because something this lovely shouldn't be shut away in a closet. Maybe I should just start wearing it to the grocery store, it certainly would make things more interesting!
God Bless

You.are.perfect. Oh my gosh! You, girl have the best collection of vintage I've ever seen. It is literally phenomenal! ReplyDeleteDang, I wish my grandmother had saved her clothes for me. Katie, you look so beautiful, like a winter princess! I always think yellow is a blah colour for blondes, but this dress is really a stunner on you. And you did a wonderful job with your makeup! Again, I would have thought that shade of lipstick too dark for a pale complexion, but it looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day :)
Kudos to you for bearing the cold and taking these gorgeous photos. I can't even fathom how cold -23 degrees must feel. This dress is is so lovely. I look really bad in yellow so I'm jealous of people who can pull it off haha. And it's so cool that the dress has a back story and came from your grandmother.
ReplyDeletei'm amazed you could even take off your coat and sweater for a minute w/ those temps. the snowflakes really are beautiful though, i esp love the shot of them falling on your cinderella hair. and that dress! wow, it's gorgeous. your granny must have been quite the fashionista back in the day! and the cape is so beautiful and such a nice gift from your sister. have u just recently began wearing vintage?
