Veteran's Day

Why, hello there you gorgeous things! Sorry for such sporadic posting lately. Life has been too busy for my little blog these past couple of weeks! I finally got around to taking some more photos yesterday after church. The ground was full of leaves that all blew off the trees when we had insane wind this past week coupled with about four inches of snow. The snow all melted promptly for a green weekend, but now it is snowing once again. Winter is definitely upon us! Now I just need to get some snowy photos :) Those are my favorite!

I have the day off for Veteran's Day which is quite nice. I wish husband did too, but it is one of the holidays they took away for some reason at the bank he works at. Seems quite silly to me as I know there are Veterans that work with him! I used to get a great experience every Veteran's Day when I was in school. There was a program at our armory and our high school choir would perform. We'd get to sit and listen to a program honoring men and women in our community. I miss that now! What a great way to appreciate our Veterans!
I even sort of wore red, white and blue with my hat and red lipstick. A subtle homage anyway :)

This hat, oh this hat. It was in the pile of vintage toppers I bought from my friend Kim. I knew it would be one of my favorites when I saw the different shades of blue satin peeking out of the pile of felt and velvet hats. It made me feel so fancy to wear such an exquisite hat! I haven't been able to figure out the era of it yet. I feel like it could be transcendent of many decades and I wish I could find out more information about it. At any rate, I hope to update my Etsy Shop this week with a ton of the vintage hats I've recently acquired, as well as some handbags and shoes!

I am getting so sick of long hair, that I'm thinking up creative ways to put it up now. It is so long that I can twist it and pin it up to the top of my head and create quite a fun style to wear! I go  back and forth between wanting to chop my hair and wanting to keep it long. I know it will grow back, but I also know that it will take a couple of years to do so and I am impatient. I just feel like it would be so much easier to style some days if it were about shoulder-length. What do you think?
I need to work on getting some more hair tutorials up soon as well. Oh, if I could only have more time in my day!

Thanks for hanging it here with me! I hope you have a happy Veteran's Day and cherish those close to you who have served for our country!

God Bless,
KJA

  3. Such a stunning blue color that really brings out your eye and hair color well.

As for the hair... my honest opinion is that you would probably really enjoy having shorter hair. Your hair now is quite pretty, but you do vintage styles with your hair, so I've actually been surprised that you haven't tried a shorter length before this. I think the curls required for most vintage looks will stay better, be curlier and longer (with perhaps not as much work on your part) with a shoulder length cut. I've also noticed that you usually do 40s and 50s styles of hair and they typically had about shoulder length, hair. And at that length you would still be able to do most if not all the hair styles you do now. Plus, they usually had hair at mostly one length.

I would maybe invest in a vintage hair style book (I love the book Vintage Hairstyling: Retro Styles with Step-by-Step Techniques, which you can get at http://store.hrstbooks.com/vintage-hairstyling-retro-styles-with-step-by-step-techniques/ ). The author also has a blog (http://bobbypinblog.blogspot.com), so if you didn't want to spend the money for the book, there is good info there too. Good luck with whatever you decide!

  4. You're so pretty. Your photos are so fun and I love the setting. Your hat is so unique and creative. Just beautiful and suits you so well. Love the coat too. If I were you I'd never cut my hair. You have my dream hair and I'd do anything to have hair as long and as stunning as yours.

  5. How could you get sick of a beautiful hair like yours!? O_O It's so unbelievably perfect!!!! I wouldn't mind you, making more hairstyle tutorials, though, because I really enjoy them ^_^
And this fancy shmancy hat is the bomb!!! How do you find such unique pieces is a mystery to me :D

  7. I hope you find a picture or photo of someone wearing a hat similar to date it by. I am curious if it has a label. Perhaps homemade if not.
