Trick or Treat Trail Run 2013

Hey there guys and dolls! Yesterday was quite a milestone day for me as I was able to run my very first 5k race (along with Sean whom I forced to run with me :) )! It was a Halloween themed run so of course I ran as a 50's I Love Lucy reincarnation. It really wasn't anything different than my normal attire, so it felt very natural to me, haha! My goal was to complete the race having run the whole thing without walking, and I was able to do that! I ran it in 34:58 which I was extremely proud of. Having never been a runner in my life, I began training in January with the thought that I'd never be able to run in long increments. But the longer I trained I began to see that if I mentally told myself I could run a little bit farther, my body would comply. I cannot believe I am able to run for that long and I've already downloaded a 10k app that I want to start training on. I'm not sure I'll ever run a 10k, but it will be a series of great workouts nonetheless.

It was quite a stressful morning for the run actually. We got to the park with some time to warm up when I realized I had left my ipod at home. I immediately freaked out because there is no way I can run without music. I made Sean drive us home and we got back to begin the race just in the nick of time!  Silly me...but I was so glad to have my tunes and it helped me tremendously.

The above pictures are from before the race, and the below pictures are what I looked like after the run. You can see my earbuds still hanging down! I was very worried my hair would be all over the place from flopping up and down, but I sprayed the goodness out of it and it must have helped hold it together like a helmet of hair on top of my head! It was also FREEZING outside so I was so glad to bundle up in my coat after I cooled down a bit. The air was pretty brisk and refreshing during the run, but afterwords I definitely needed my fuzzy socks and a some hot soup, haha.

Here were our post-run snacks-gummy bears for Sean and nuts with m&ms' for me :)

After the run we went out with one of Sean's coworkers (who ran the 10k race) and his wife and three little girls. It was such a fun day and one that made me feel quite accomplished.

God Bless and have a wonderful Sunday!

  2. You looked so cute and I am super impressed with your time! I've done three races but still can't run the entire 5k. My last one was in August and it took me 37 minutes, with only a tiny bit of walking. You rocked it, girl!

  6. kuddos to you Katie!! i used to run cross country in HS so a 5k would've been normal way back then but right now, I know i'd need loooots of training to get back into it. which i sorely need to do and get in shape again. so great you & your hubs did it together and i am cracking up so much that you did the run in your vintage dress & do, looks like such a fun time!
