Blue Skies

I love my grandparent's farm, and I also love my grandmother's clothing. I found many pictures of my grandmother wearing this dress in the 70's. She made it herself (of course) and wore it countless times! I love it that we were so similar in size that I can give her clothing a new generation of life. I had so much fun frolicking around the farm and forcing my sister to take pictures of me.

Everything is beautiful out here- the skies are always really blue, except when they are grey from a lovely thunderstorm. There are tons of old outbuildings for a backdrop-what fun!

My lovely grandmother wearing this dress in 1977:

I couldn't resist matching these rugged boots to my bag-it was perfect for trekking around the farm, albeit looking a little cheesy...:P

This is only the first group of many pictures I took last week-can't wait to post even more!
God Bless,
KJA

  1. Oh goodness, those boots and that purse were just made for each other, weren't they?! Too perfect! These pictures are just fabulous, especially the first one--what an ideal blue sky that is. I'm super envious of your rustic backdrops. The color of those metal walls looks almost patriotic in some of those!

  5. Oh Katie! That is so very cool to see the original photo of your grandmother wearing the dress - and then to see it on you. What a very special (and beautiful) piece to have - especially since it was one she made.

These photos look like they could be from a movie set. What a picture perfect place your grandparent's farm is! There simply is nothing quite as beautiful as a bright blue sky and lots of wide open space.

Glad you had such a wonderful time:)

  6. Haha...wasn't expensive at all, which is part of why I chose to design it. It's hard for me to find a dress on sale or secondhand that wouldn't be super high priced since I would have had to get them altered so much (I'm only 5'2" and 100 lbs at that point). I only spent $600 including fabric and had the most helpful, dedicated seamstress! Plus it just made the wedding SO much more special and amazing being able to put myself into that dress and make it speak to who I am and what my hubby loves about me :)

P.s. Those boots are KILLER AWESOME!!!
