Building a Vintage Wardrobe

You guys, I finally found the perfect vintage jeans. I showed a snippet of them in my last post, but I had to showcase the full look. I've seen others wearing the most adorable 40's inspired jeans (I have a few bloggers in mind...) but I never wanted to shell out the prices for them at online vintage shops and such. I did the silliest, giddiest happy dance when I found these the other day! They are the most amazingly comfortable high-waisted beauties and I am in love. I haven't taken them off, really this whole weekend. They even have that fabulous seam down the front of the legs that I love. Plus they are the perfect length. I hit the jackpot. And at only 5 bucks all of my vintage dreams came true! I have about a thousand ideas for how I want to style these so you'll probably seeing a lot of them :)

I feel as though slowly, but surely I'm finally building the wardrobe that I want to have. I kind of expected to just be able to find everything I wanted right away, in only a few shopping trips. I've come to learn though that it takes time, patience, and a lot of trial and error to create a vintage wardrobe. It is difficult, but so rewarding to find just the thing you're looking for under a pile in the thrift store. Plus, I kind of love mixing old an new pieces together, it's become a kind of style of it's own!  I have a long way to go, but I'm having so much fun getting there :)

I found this cardigan the same day I found the jeans. I pretty much haven't taken the cardigan off of my body either. It is so warm and cozy and has the cutest buttons I've ever seen! Not to mention it is the most perfect color on the planet (and for 2 dollars and 39 cents). I love my thrift store :)

This weekend we spent in my husband's hometown. I got to spend some time shopping and talking with my mama, which is always my favorite thing to do :). And wouldn't you know it, I didn't buy a thing! I'm such a good girl.
I also spent quite a bit of time editing family photos and hanging with my in laws. What a great weekend!
Did you do anything lovely?
God Bless!

Life Snapshots

It has been the craziest, busiest week and it's not over yet. I've been up to my eyeballs in paperwork, lesson plans, crazy kiddos, and blog stuff, not to mention housework and dealing with the hubby being away on a work trip, plus starting my 5k training (ok, this is all normal people stuff, I get it-I'm a wimp!).  Anyway the point is that I haven't really had a chance to take outfit shots-so here are a few photos that I've had on my memory card for a while :)

Sometimes when I'm waiting for Sean at the airport I get bored and take selfies. Don't judge me :)

Frost on the car windows on our drive home to see family and friends :)

Last time I was at my parents' house I found my wedding bouquet! I love the way dried flowers look-it's that vintage charm that they take on. Someday I shall have this in my house!

Remember this post? I made a frame for my earrings, and I finally got around to making one (or making Sean make one) for my necklaces too! Everything is so much more organized now instead of sitting in piles and heaps on my dresser and around the house. Yipee!

One of my older sisters and I taking silly phone pics...haha. Oh dear goodness :)

Aaaand, last but not least, modern cardi and jeans vs. vintage cardi and jeans. Which do you think is better?

Have a blessed Friday everyone!

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it

Start Fresh

I've had these photos sitting in my drafts for quite a while. I wore this to a game night we had with some friends. It was a casual, comfy outfit perfect for playing with doggies and sitting with your knees on the floor around a card table :)

This week has already been a doozy. I got two new students in my program and one of them is giving me a run for my money! Praying for patience and strength this week...
One thing I'm doing for myself is committing to a 5k training program. I'm not much of a runner, but I can't seem to stick to anything so I figured giving myself some kind of goal to shoot for is a good idea. I'm sure I'll never run in a 5k race, but I thought it was a good starting distance for me. Since the temps are around 15 degrees in the morning I bought myself some pretty new cold weather running gear as an incentive. I couldn't wait to put it on and start running! I'm slightly worried about next week as next Monday the HIGH for the day is -7 DEGREES. That's right, did you catch the negative symbol in there? No wonder my body goes into conservation mode and puts another layer on during the winter months (And also the reason for indoor pics)! I probably won't run on days it is that cold, but hopefully it will be warm enough in between to keep up a steady routine.

Happy Wednesday all you lovelies!

Curls

This post is all about the hair people. I finally got around to spending the hour and a half putting curlers in my hair the other night. I used to use curlers when I was younger. As in, I made my mom sit there and put them in my hair. Back then the curls would last for around three days. Now they're flat by the end of the day, ha.
I loved having my mama put my hair in curlers though. It seemed to be a great bonding time between us as we'd sit and watch movies or gab while she did my hair. It could take up to two hours sometimes because of my super long locks back then. My mother has always had a talent for doing the hair of my sisters and I. We'd go to school with the most intricate french braids. I miss that sometimes when I just want my mama sitting with me on the couch combing out the tangles from my wet strands. Next time I'm home I may have to solicit her to do that! :)

For these curls I used foam rollers and twisted my hair before rolling it up, which created more of a wavy effect. I need to start playing around more with my hair-I love when it looks a bit different than normal!

I went to visit my sister and nephews again this weekend. I'm so happy when I get to spend time with them and hugs from my nephews always brighten my mood immensely. Not to mention getting to gab with my sister and mama! (pictured below :) ).  Are they gorgeous, or what?! Just missing our fourth girl-my other beloved sister who is traveling the world right now!

Hope your Monday is full of sweetness darlings!

1 John 4:20-21
Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

Simple Vintage

I was feeling particularly vintage inspired today when attending a nice lunch with my in laws. It was frigidly cold out today, so I pulled out my grandmother's knit sweater. It has its share of pills and wear, but I can't beat it for warmth and that simple vintage touch it brings! I love the shape and length of it so much.

After leaving the house today I realized I should have worn a MUCH warmer coat. But I'm still in love with this vintage cashmere trench I thrifted. I want to wear it as much as possible!

This topper is one of my very favorites! It works with hair up or down and can be worn with a variety of styles. Although I have noticed that I often wear it with these shoes-I just can't help pairing up two  of my navy and white accessories!

Hope you had a lovely Saturday!

Fading Light

I had my mama snap some photos of me on New Year's Day when I was home for a bit. The light was fading as we took these in the evening, but I was grateful for the beautiful sunset and snow :)

I've just been working and such this week, nothing too special. What have you lovelies been up to?
Have a blessed day!
