Trust

We've been talking about Elijah in church for the past few weeks. Today was on faithfulness and how Elijah trusted God for EVERYTHING. Even when he was out in the wilderness living on bread from ravens. Our pastor gave us an interesting take on faithfulness that I'd not really heard before. He talked about our temptation as humans to begin trusting and relying on God's provisions, rather than trusting in God Himself.
We begin to start trusting in the things God gives us-such as food and our jobs-rather than simply trusting our whole heart to God-our trust is misplaced. I'm going to have to do some more introspection on this topic...

Matthew 6:11
Give us today our daily bread.

This was a weird outfit for me to wear to church. I haven't worn pants to church in literally YEARS. I don't know what possessed me to wear pants this morning. Perhaps it was the chill in the air, or the fact that I just really love these pants and wanted to test them out! They are Old Navy and I bought them for four dollars at the thrift store yesterday. They were practically brand new too! They feel stiff, like they're not broken in yet. Now I have some fun pants to wear to work!

So, don't laugh-but I tried to do something new with my hair today and it didn't really work out for me. I look a little bit Amish in the following picture. All I need is the beard and you could call me an Amish priest! Haha, oh well. Sometimes it's fun to try something a little different.

I know it's spring, not fall-but I still love to throw leaves!

God Bless and have a glorious Sunday!

Life

John 10:28-30
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. The Father and I are one.

That is all. I belong to Jesus :) and He holds me in his hands forever!

I wore this to do a little thrifting today-some people use retail therapy, but I use thrifting therapy! I always find some little gem to make me happy (most the time for around two dollars). I call that a pretty awesome and inexpensive habit :). I have some awesome finds to show you this week! I found a couple of vintage blouses and an amazing wool blazer (with elbow patches!!) for two dollars each. I couldn't pass them up! Plus I  found some skinny black pants that I have been wanting for work. I have been in need of some black pants that I can wear that I actually LIKE. I'm sick of wearing old lady black pants that I've had since middle school. Sean thinks I'm silly because I only have a few weeks left of school, but I know I'll get a ton of use out of them even after school is over.

I'm really wanting to go out for a run today...but I should have went this morning when the weather was nice. By now the wind has picked up to like 80 miles an hour, I'm pretty sure and it's hot out too :P that will teach me to sleep in! I'll probably just end up playing kinect instead.

Hope you all are enjoying your Saturday! Don't get blown away ;)
God Bless,
KJA

Casual Friday

Ok guys, I have to say that I'm a little mad a blogger right now. I FINALLY- after over two years of blogging- figured out how to get the layout and pictures I wanted and then they go and change the uploading process! I logged in and just went, "Oh great!" It really isn't that bad, I just cringe at technological change.
Here's what I wore for casual Friday :) I've been posting so many casual outfits lately! I guess I just get sick of dress pants during the week and want to slip into a pair of comfy jeans :)

I taught my last lesson on plants to my kiddos today. We talked about all the different uses of plants and how we can take care of the plants around us. The most interesting thing to them was that their clothing was made of plant fibers-they thought I was joking! I could definitely tell it was Friday though because they were naughty little monsters all day long. I still don't have the respect from them that they give the regular teacher in the room-I'm just too nice and let the stinkers get away with too much! I'm worried when I have kids of my own I'll become that push-over parent with way spoiled children :P

After work Sean and I had a little supper and went to Bed Bath and Beyond. We love that store. You can go in there time after time and find some new little gadget that you just have to have! We never buy anything, but always ooh and ahh over the kitchen section. Sean remarked that the next time he had to buy me a gift he could just go there and buy pretty much anything off the shelf! I agreed with him :)

I am in luuuurve with this mint green cardigan. It is practically perfect in every way ;) The color, the pockets, the feel-I was just so comfy all day long!  Also, I think I look pretty crazy in rolled jeans because of my shorty little legs, but just for the record I really don't care. I love the vintage vibe that rolled jeans bring to an outfit and I'm kind of obsessed with showing off fun colored socks!

*geek face alert!*

Alright friends, it looks like my weekend is filled with lesson planning and more lesson planning. Hopefully a workout or two thrown in as well, since getting sick for the past two weeks has kind of left a permanent couch cushion stuck to my bum. Here's to the gorgeous weather ahead so I can go running (or...jog/walking rather...)!

Have a blessed evening :)

1 Corinthians 15:55-57
O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.

The CAT's are back.

I begged my mom to buy me these shoes in 7th grade. I love cats and thought, "How can these shoes not be made for me? They're called CAT's!" Based on that premise and the fact that I thought they were pretty cool I convinced my mom that I would love them and wear them everyday. She made me promise that I would wear them forever. Which, I pretty much did. I wore them everyday of my life for at least three years probably. Well, I picked them back up again and kind of liked the interesting look they could add to some of my outfits! They're a little big and chunky, but they remind me of the oh so popular creepers (which are way too extreme for me). I put them on with this blazer and actually liked the way they looked! The shoes are back!

I observed in a fifth grade classroom today. Worlds apart from my first grade classroom! The attention span is so much longer. In first grade I'm used to always changing activities every 20 minutes or so. Fifth graders can last a good 40 minutes before they begin to succumb to boredom! It was an interesting observation, the male teacher was a little unconventional in the way he interacted with the students- I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. I hated being teased in school by teachers, but I also think it's something that a lot of kids respond to because of the humor. Definitely not a route I'll be taking in my teaching, however. But his students seemed to love it!

I did a celery experiment with my students today. We're learning about stems of plants. I showed the students some celery stalks and then we put them in cups of colored water to see what will happen to them overnight-I hope it really works! The celery is supposed to soak up the color and the stalk and leaves will turn (in our case) red. Although if you'd look in our classroom you'd think we had a bunch of bloody mary's sitting out on our table with all of the cups of celery! haha. Gross.
Speaking of lesson plans...I have to get another one ready tonight! Yipes!

I hope you all have a blessed Tuesday evening! Here's to only having ONE MONTH of teaching left and 18 DAYS UNTIL GRADUATION!!!!!!!! WOOHOOO!
I'm not excited. Not at all.
Well.
Maybe a little.
:)

God Bless!

Teacher Style-Bundled Up

This is the most boring, most overdone look I could have possibly come up with-black pants and a jean jacket? Yawn...but sometimes I feel like posting the kinds of things I wear to school, you know-for posterity!
It was nice to feel like somewhat of a normal person today. I'm able to be awake all day instead of having to nap all day (like I have had to for the last two weeks), my cough/cold is subsiding, and my voice is almost back to normal! Sure makes me appreciate my health though, I thank God that I'm healthy everyday-I'm so blessed! I've even been eating healthier (well kind of)!

Tonight was hamburgers, mine was topped with a fried egg and pepper jack cheese-heavenly! I then had a side of summer squash, zucchini, and broccoli spiced with red pepper and parmesan, it was amazing let me tell you. (And just for my mom, see the bottle of vitamins in the background? That's right now you have proof that I take them!)

It was ccc-cold out today! I bundled up with a scarf and jacket, and I don't even care that I look really poofy and short, my first graders don't care ok? ;) haha

Comfy clothes are the best for teaching, hands down. I can't wait to take a style break from it though after I'm done and wear fun casual clothes for a while!

Hope you all had a fantastic Monday!

KJA

Back in Action

I was finally feeling up to taking pictures this morning after church! It was a great service today. It felt good to be reminded about fearlessness in faith and trusting that if God is calling you to do something-it's important to listen. Many times in our lives we may feel a nudge to speak out in our faith, but think we'll come across as pushy, or silly. I know I've struggled with that in my life! Instead of worrying about our trivial lives I think it's so much more rewarding if we listen to that nudge from God and maybe bring others to His Kingdom because of it! Just a thought for the start of your week-fearlessness!

Malachi 4:5-6
Look, I am sending you the prophet Elijah before the great and dreadful day of the Lord arrives. His preaching will turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers. Otherwise I will come and strike the land with a curse.

I finally learned a bit of html this weekend and figured out how to tweak my blog a bit. I absolutely love it! I changed my layout, widened everything and figured out how to get larger images to show up without them being blurry or pixelated-I feel pretty proud of my simple little bloggy victory! Haha! It isn't that spectacular in comparison to other blogs I read, but I think I'll keep it for a while :)

My Sean is fast asleep next to me on the couch, there's some boring public tv show on in the background, and I'm staring out the window at the prettiest, fattest little robin taking a little swim in a puddle-I'm looking forward to a relaxing Sunday afternoon! We're even caught up on the dishes and laundry! That doesn't happen very often ;) I hope you all have a lovely Sunday and that you can get a bit of lounging in-here's to the coming week!
God Bless!

Rain-spiration

Last week before Easter I came down with what I can only conceive to be the plague. I haven't posted in nearly two weeks! I was fastened to the couch/bed wondering when I was going to have my voice/body back. I had absolutely no voice, no energy to even walk around the house, much less make it to school/work. I seem to be on the mend, however I'm still not really up to taking outfit photos. I found these photos on the Modcloth blog (I believe...) and thought that considering the weather we've been having (chilly and rainy) that they would be perfect for a little rainy weather inspiration post! If only we could look this cute every time it rains-matching umbrella and all!

Hope to see more of the blogosphere this coming week!
God Bless,
KJA

Most importantly:

1 Corinthians 15:1, 3-4
Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it. I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.
