Curls

This post is all about the hair people. I finally got around to spending the hour and a half putting curlers in my hair the other night. I used to use curlers when I was younger. As in, I made my mom sit there and put them in my hair. Back then the curls would last for around three days. Now they're flat by the end of the day, ha.
I loved having my mama put my hair in curlers though. It seemed to be a great bonding time between us as we'd sit and watch movies or gab while she did my hair. It could take up to two hours sometimes because of my super long locks back then. My mother has always had a talent for doing the hair of my sisters and I. We'd go to school with the most intricate french braids. I miss that sometimes when I just want my mama sitting with me on the couch combing out the tangles from my wet strands. Next time I'm home I may have to solicit her to do that! :)

For these curls I used foam rollers and twisted my hair before rolling it up, which created more of a wavy effect. I need to start playing around more with my hair-I love when it looks a bit different than normal!

I went to visit my sister and nephews again this weekend. I'm so happy when I get to spend time with them and hugs from my nephews always brighten my mood immensely. Not to mention getting to gab with my sister and mama! (pictured below :) ).  Are they gorgeous, or what?! Just missing our fourth girl-my other beloved sister who is traveling the world right now!

Hope your Monday is full of sweetness darlings!

1 John 4:20-21
Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

Simple Vintage

I was feeling particularly vintage inspired today when attending a nice lunch with my in laws. It was frigidly cold out today, so I pulled out my grandmother's knit sweater. It has its share of pills and wear, but I can't beat it for warmth and that simple vintage touch it brings! I love the shape and length of it so much.

After leaving the house today I realized I should have worn a MUCH warmer coat. But I'm still in love with this vintage cashmere trench I thrifted. I want to wear it as much as possible!

This topper is one of my very favorites! It works with hair up or down and can be worn with a variety of styles. Although I have noticed that I often wear it with these shoes-I just can't help pairing up two  of my navy and white accessories!

Hope you had a lovely Saturday!

Glatians 6:23-28
So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Fading Light

I had my mama snap some photos of me on New Year's Day when I was home for a bit. The light was fading as we took these in the evening, but I was grateful for the beautiful sunset and snow :)

I've just been working and such this week, nothing too special. What have you lovelies been up to?
Have a blessed day!

Classic

I started putting together this outfit thinking I wanted a different, grungy kind of look. Well I guess my clothing had a mind of its own because I changed out a slouchy sweater for this classic white blouse and it changed the whole look right back to classic schoolboy or something. I just can't help it I suppose! I love how a white collar looks so polished with a blazer, especially a navy one. I wore this to run to hobby lobby for glitter paint and jingle balls. Crafts for the kiddos! We're going to be making little doorbells they can hang on their door out of egg carton cups. Woooo! It should be a fun day :)

I'm loving this set of dainty rings I got the other day. I'm not one for huge jewelry, so it's nice to add a bit of shine on my finger without taking someone's eye out, you know? This cameo I bought years ago at a flea market but it never had a chain. I finally got one for it so now I  can wear it with all of my collared shirts!

This week has already been tiring, to say the least. My kids at school are just really wild. I wonder if they're still running on Christmas break fumes? Whatever it is I hope it subsides soon. I can barely get through a lesson because there is no way to get them to stop talking! I always have been horrible with discipline. I guess this is good practice for me then! bah.

So, I FINALLY joined Pinterest the other day! I know I'm late to the party on everything, I don't even have a twitter or anything like that. But I thought as long as I look at pinterest all the time anyway I might as well have an account. Maybe I'll have to add some links on here or something if I find anything worth pinning :)
Which reminds me, I finally revamped my blog layout! I think I like the cleaner look and I have a wonderful new banner made for me by Sour Fawn Web Design. I feel legit now, like a real blogger! Haha.
Also, have you ladies heard about Modcloth's Year of Dresses contest? I entered and if I win I get a dress per month from Modcloth in 2013! If you'd like to vote for me you can do so here. I would appreciate it ever so much!

Happy Wednesday friends!

Matthew 6:19-21
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Getting Older

I wore this the other day to spend some time with some of my favorite kiddos. I started out the day having lunch with three young ladies whom I used to babysit. They are now much too old for their own good and have me feeling ancient as they are becoming teenagers. I've known them since they were born so it is definitely a weird feeling to see them becoming so mature and grown up. Gawrsh.
After lunch we took a trek to my sister's place to see my nephews and celebrate the eldest's fourth birthday! It hardly seems possible that he is four years old already, but alas time flies by all to quickly.

I also wore some gifts that my sister has given me in the past. The earrings are from a few Christmases ago and the headband is just from this past Christmas. It has a darling little bow and a little sparkle, which is never a bad thing! I love it! The crocheted necklaces were handmade for me by the aforementioned young ladies whom I saw for lunch. They are so crafty!

I didn't know I could wear this dress so many ways when I bought it this summer. It really is great for layering or wearing on it's own as a sundress. I'll have to do a remix one of these days because it is just so perfect to wear with anything. It has a fun print, a comfy elastic waist and nice subtle colors, which is why I threw on my rusty tights to go with it. Both of my nephews were very confused when they saw my colored legs. They said, "What IS that?" It was cute, haha.

These boots are about ready to be tossed. I got them several years ago from walmart when boots like this were just becoming popular. I wasn't sure I liked them but figured for three dollars why not give them a shot? They ended up sitting in my closet for a couple of years before I got the guts to wear them out (this was when I was still style-shy apparently?) Now I've worn them so much they are falling apart. I finally found a replacement pair which should be arriving in the mail shortly! It took me forever to find another pair because I am so horribly cheap that I refused to pay the ridiculous prices of boots these days.

And for good measure, here is a photo of me with the darling boys. They're pretty much my favorite- all of you who have nieces and nephews know that they just have the ability to brighten your day at any moment with their smiles and hugs :) Love these tykes!

Also, my sister always has the best ideas for when she hosts get togethers such as this. She made brownie and cake pops that were so much fun to eat! We also had berries and homemade whipped cream, because we're fancy like that :)

Hope you have a happy Tuesday! I accidentally wrote Wednesday the first time...oi it's going to be a long week!
God Bless!

And a little inspiration for your day, to be a blessing to others :)
1 Peter 3:8-9
Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.  Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.
